The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) invites you and your club rifle team to participate in the CMP’s Monthly Matches. The matches will take place on 17 September, 8 October and 19 November at the CMP’s Marksmanship Centers North and South. The competitions will feature a Junior Air Rifle 3x20, 60 Shots Air Rifle Standing, 60 Shots Air Pistol, a 20 shot Novice Prone stage a National Match Air Rifle 20 Shot Standing, Garand Course and 3x20 events. Cruz Wins Air Rifle Precision Class and Hollis Wins Sporter Title at 2012 Army JROTC Service Championship

ANNISTON, ALABAMA & CAMP PERRY, OHIO – Kevin Cruz, 19, of Del Valle High School, El Paso, Texas, won the precision air rifle championship at the 2012 Army JROTC Service Championship on 9 February at the CMP South Marksmanship Center in Anniston. Charles Hollis, 17, of Rayville High School, Louisiana, won the sporter division championship, also at the same venue.

Kevin Cruz, 19, of Del Valle High School, El Paso, Texas, won the precision air rifle championship at the 2012 Army JROTC Service Championship. He will represent his unit at the JROTC National Championship in March.

Cruz fired a 1266.8 aggregate score, including an 1169 qualifying score and a 97.8 final. Hollis combined an 1122 qualifying score with a 90.0 final to post an aggregate of 1212.

The 2012 Army sporter class victor was Charles Hollis, of Rayville, Louisiana. In addition to his gold medal, Hollis was awarded with a Model 887 sporter air rifle; donated by Daisy.

In precision, Mercedes Romih, 17, of Patch HS, Germany, placed second with an aggregate of 1265.6 and Sarah Jameson, 16, of Walla Walla HS, Washington, took third with a combined score of 1264.8.

Taking second in sporter was Tyler Rico, 17, of Flowing Wells HS, Tucson, Arizona, with an aggregate score of 1211.1 and Todd Mazur, 17, of Killeen HS, Texas, placed third with a total of 1200.3.

The individual and team service championships were the culmination of preliminary postal competitions which began in October 2011. Participants fired on paper targets at their units’ home ranges and were returned via mail to CMP Programs HQ and tabulated using the Orion scanning system.

Shooters who made the preliminary cut were invited to the CMP Marksmanship Centers in either Anniston, Alabama or Port Clinton, Ohio, to fire shoulder-to-shoulder against fellow Army JROTC shooters for their service championship. The final phase of the tournament, the National JROTC Championship, will be fired in Anniston 22-24 March, where JROTC cadets from Army, Marine Corps, Navy and Air Force cadet commands will compete for national honors.

In team competition, Ozark High School Army JROTC, Missouri, won the precision air rifle class with an aggregate score of 4626-273. Firing members were Makennon Doran, Tessa Howald, Shelby Brummett, and Logan Hunt.

Del Valle HS, Texas, placed second in precision with a combined score of 4596-233. Team members were Kevin Cruz, Jasmine Juarez, Jose Arras, and Jaime Regis.

The overall sporter team champion was Daleville HS, Alabama, with an aggregate of 4360-140. Team members were Katlyn Bass, Joshua Ranes, Joshua Nabinger, and Juan Escalante.
