CAMP PERRY, OHIO - The Official Program for the 2010 Eastern CMP Games and Creedmoor Cup Matches hosted by the North Carolina Army National Guard at Camp Butner, North Carolina on 8-16 May is now available for online competitor registration and general information at the Civilian Marksmanship Program web site at
www.odcmp.com.
The 4th Eastern CMP Games and Creedmoor Cup Matches are co-sponsored by the CMP and Creedmoor Sports, Inc. CMP Games Matches will take place on 8-11 May and Creedmoor Cup Matches will be held 12-16 May. All interested shooters, whether new or experienced, recreation-oriented shooters or national championship contenders are invited to participate in these unique, national-level competitions.
This year's events sponsored by the CMP include a Range Officials Certification Program, the Garand, Springfield and Military Rifle Match Clinic, the John C. Garand Match, the Springfield Match, the Vintage Military Rifle Match, the As-Issued M1 Garand EIC Match, the Special As-Issued Military Pistol Match, the CMP EIC Pistol Match, the Rimfire Sporter Match, the Carbine Match and the new Vintage Sniper Match.
Remington Firearms is sponsoring the Highpower Rifle Clinic and a Practice Match (NMC). Creedmoor Sports is sponsoring a Four-Man team match (4 x NMC), the Creedmoor Cup 800 Aggregate and the Creedmoor EIC Match.
Here are some details about the new features added to this year's program:
• The goal of the Range Officials Certification Program is to provide every club and range with trained line and pit officials and range safety officers. The secondary goal of this program is to provide experienced officials with a comprehensive range command handbook, alibi situation manual and pit situation manual.
• The new Vintage Sniper Rifle Test Match will consist of two-man teams with each team member firing 15 rounds at 300 yards and 15 rounds at 600 yards. Winners will be recognized but because this is a test match no awards will be given.
• The As-Issued MI Garand Special EIC Match was moved to Sunday in 2009 and was very well received and will continue in 2010. Bushmaster Firearms will again offer a DCM XR competition rifle to the highest-ranking competitor in this match who is eligible to earn a 4-point Distinguished Rifleman credit (competitors who have earned no previous EIC points).
• The Three-Gun Aggregate Awards for firing all three As-Issued Military Rifle Matches will continue in 2010.
• The CMP introduced introductory EIC Pistol Matches and a regular EIC Pistol Match at the 2009 Eastern Games. In 2010, the CMP will host a Pistol Fundamentals Clinic, including an As-Issued Special EIC Pistol Match and a regular EIC Pistol Match. These matches will be held on Sunday, 9 May in the afternoon on the pistol range at Camp Butner.
• The Rimfire Sporter match was a big hit in 2009 and will be fired again this year. There will also be a Carbine Match on Monday afternoon following the As-Issued Military Rifle Matches.
The Eastern CMP Games Matches are governed by current CMP Competition Rules. The Creedmoor Cup Matches are governed by current NRA High Power Rifle Rules and CMP Competition Rules (EIC Match). Competition officials and staff for the matches will be provided by the CMP & Creedmoor Sports.
The primary officials are Match Director, Dennis DeMille, Creedmoor Sports’ GM; Assistant Match Director, Christie Sewell, CMP; Chief Range Officer, Richard Whiting and Chief Pit Officer, Emil Praslick Jr.
The CMP Games Matches are ideal events for shooters who have not participated in previous competitions. Shooters are permitted to coach or assist each other in these matches. Experienced shooters are encouraged to assist new shooters with positions, slings, loading and the rules. The Garand, Carbine and Rimfire Sporter courses of fire are challenging, but all shooters with basic gun knowledge and the ability to handle these rifles can complete them safely.
From 8 -11 May, the CMP Sales staff from Anniston, Alabama, will be at the match with a supply of government surplus M1 Carbine, M1 Garand and Kimber smallbore rifles. These rifles will be on display in the afternoons after firing concludes. Anyone may inspect these rifles and select one or more to purchase from the CMP regardless of whether they are entered in the competition or not.
Rifles selected by customers are tagged. Customers must then complete the required paperwork and make payment arrangements. Rifles that are selected and purchased will be returned to Anniston and shipped directly to the customers from there. No rifles will be released to customers at the match.
Individuals interested in purchasing rifles who are not firing in the match are welcome to come to Camp Butner during the daily rifle sales periods to also inspect and tag rifles for purchase. Case lots of .30-06 M2 ball ammunition will also be available for purchase at the range.
Competitors in Garand, Springfield, Vintage Military Rifle, M1 Carbine Matches and Rimfire Sporter Matches who fire established cut scores will receive Eastern CMP Games Gold, Silver or Bronze Achievement Medals with neck ribbons. Medals will be presented each day after firing is completed.
The CMP will award plaques recognizing the High Competitor, High Senior and High Handicapped Scores in the Garand, Springfield, Vintage Military Rifle and M1 Carbine Matches. If a competitor fires the same rifle a second or third time (re-entry), only the first score will count for these awards, but all scores are eligible to win Achievement Medals.
There will be special Three-Gun Aggregate Awards for the shooters who fire scores with all three As-Issued Military Rifles. High Overall, High Senior, High Woman and High Junior award plaques will be presented for the Rimfire Sporter Match. Competitors in the As-Issued M1 Garand EIC Match who earn EIC or leg points will receive CMP EIC medals.
The Creedmoor Cup Matches begin with a free shooting clinic on Wednesday. The Highpower Clinic will be conducted by members of Team Remington and will feature lectures and demonstrations by some of the world’s leading highpower service rifle competitors. The clinic also features hands-on coaching along with dry-fire training.
Creedmoor Cup Matches continue with a practice match on Thursday and a four-person team match on Friday. Teams will fire the National Match Course of fire. On Saturday, competitors fire the 800 aggregate Creedmoor Cup Match. Awards will be given to the top competitors in each rifle class. A BBQ dinner, co-sponsored by Remington, will be served Saturday evening with awards and participation prizes for the Creedmoor Cup Matches will be distributed. The Eastern Creedmoor Cup Matches conclude on Sunday with an EIC match where the top ten percent of eligible service rifle shooters will receive EIC points.
