CMP Regional Championship Sure to be a
Prestigious Event for Junior Shooters
By Ashley Brugnone, CMP Writer
|
The CMP is gearing up for its Regional Three Position Championships, to be held at Camp Perry, OH on April 4-6 and in both Albuquerque, NM and Anniston, AL on April 11-13. This is the first year the CMP has hosted its own postal match for junior shooting clubs across the country. With high-volumes of participants and impressive scores, the match is proving to be a place for skilled junior shooters to meet.
Athletes qualify for this match through the nation-wide CMP three-position postal match, held Oct. 1 through Feb. 5, 2013. Coaches and shooters are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to compete with top shooters and display their talents to teams around the country.
“This is a prestigious event for junior shooters,” said Dana Bacak-Lynd, assistant general manager at CMP North. “Everybody who attends our Regional Championships receives an endowment, so it would help their club and shooting sports that way. It also allows them to gain some exposure in the process.”
Each team that qualifies and attends a Regional Championship at one of the three locations will be awarded a $500 endowment from Midway USA Foundation. Midway USA is a leading U.S. firearms products retailer, committed to helping sustain junior shooting programs across the country. Midway USA is the official sponsor of the CMP Postal, Regional and National Championships. More information on the Midway USA Foundation endowments can be viewed at
http://www.thecmp.org/3P/Forms/MidwayEndowment.pptx.
The CMP Regional Championship match will be carried out over a three-day span. Day one will be a check-in, equipment control and practice day, followed by two days of 3x20 matches. A final will be held on the last day for the top 8 individuals in both sporter and precision classes. At the end of the competition, 14 teams (consisting of 4 members and 1 alternate) and 5 individuals in each shooting class will qualify for the CMP National Three Position Air Rifle Championship, to be held in Anniston, AL, on July 6-9.
“We recognize that there are very talented junior shooters, in their own local shooting clubs, and we want to give them the opportunity to shine at our events,” said Bacak-Lynd. “We’re excited about the gifted shooters we’re about to see come through our doors.”
A list of qualifying teams for the Regional Championship can be found at
www.thecmp.org/3P/RegionalQualifiers.pdf. For Postal results and more information, visit the CMP website at
