By Steve Cooper, CMP Writer

CAMP PERRY, OHIO – The Civilian Marksmanship Program is proud to join the 2012 Main Street Port Clinton Walleye Festival lineup as a parade participant and offer FREE target shooting on the festival grounds Friday through Monday, May 25-28.
|
The CMP offers Open Public Shooting at the CMP’s Marksmanship Center every Tuesday and Thursday, 5:30PM – 8:00PM.

“We are very excited to be a part of the fun at the 2012 Walleye Festival,” said Christie Sewell, General Manager of CMP North programming. “We’re honored to be a supporter of the Port Clinton community and we’re looking forward to reaching out to festival attendees who can get a small glimpse of what we do at the CMP,” she said.
The CMP will bring its colorful 36-foot statistics trailer and one of the famous Camp Perry Shooter Shuttles to the parade and festival, along with several CMP staff members. The CMP will operate a two-lane BB gun range featuring paper targets, Daisy BB guns and BBs for festival-goers’ use.
The BB gun range at the festival site will be open Friday evening and all day Saturday through Monday as follows:
Friday, May 25 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Saturday, May 26 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Sunday, May 27 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Monday, May 28 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Civilian Marksmanship Program is celebrating its 15th year as a private, non-profit organization which promotes firearm safety and fosters marksmanship programs at Camp Perry and across the U.S. through more than 2,000 CMP-affiliated clubs. Prior to 1996 the organization operated under the auspices of the Department of the Army and has been a partner in the annual National Matches each summer at Camp Perry since 1907.
“While we are best known as a principle partner in the National Matches, we conduct and support multiple firearm safety and marksmanship programs throughout the year,” Sewell said.

Walleye Festival goers will be able to take aim inside the Daisy Inflatable BB Gun Range.

“We have a state-of-the-art airgun marksmanship center where the 2012 Olympic Trials for Airgun were held this year, plus we sponsor high-power modern military and vintage military rifle matches all year long at Camp Perry and in Oklahoma, Georgia, North Carolina and Arizona. We conduct regional games events, plus hundreds of other events through our clubs,” she said.
“The public is welcome to join us most Tuesday and Thursday evenings at Camp Perry to practice at our indoor marksmanship center where we hold monthly matches from September through May and hold special airgun matches during the Natonal Matches in July and August.”
