CAMP PERRY, Ohio – Once again this year, the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) will offer a Garand – Springfield - Military Rifle (G-S-M) Master Instructor Clinic at Camp Perry, July 15, 2014, during the National Matches. The course is designed to prepare experienced rifle enthusiasts and instructors to conduct CMP-sanctioned clinics and matches at their own home shooting clubs or ranges.
The CMP Master Instructor certification program teaches individuals how to instruct new shooters in safety and range procedures, vintage military rifle operation, shooting equipment, firing techniques, the shooting positions and match procedures for the popular CMP As-Issued Military Rifle courses of fire.
All clinic students are provided with a full set of CMP rifle clinic instructional materials. The clinic will certify students as GSM Master Instructors. These instructors will also be trained to run Rimfire Sporter clinics and matches as well.
Gary Anderson, Director of Civilian Marksmanship Emeritus, will conduct the course at Camp Perry. In addition to having been a long time director at CMP, Anderson is also a two-time Olympic gold medalist and has won seven World Championships and 16 National Championships. Currently, he is the lead instructor for the CMP G-S-M Master Instructor clinics, which are held around the country each year.
Anderson said, “The G-S-M Master instructor clinic program represents a major CMP commitment to grow the shooting sports by teaching shooting club leaders and instructors how to use the latest instructional methods to organize high quality rifle clinics and matches for new shooters. Master Instructors become part of a national cadre of rifle training experts who are committed to working through their shooting clubs to get more new shooters off to great starts in the shooting sports.”
Master Instructor clinics are open to a limit of 30 students to ensure that all attendees have full opportunities to participate in class discussions and receive hands-on instruction. A registration fee of $135 covers the cost of course materials, training curricula and provided meals.
