Ms. Elder,
I was thrilled when I read the “Short History of the Distinguished Shooter Program.” As the first Navy female Distinguished Pistol Shot, I am humbled to see my name among so many others who have made the grade. Many thanks to Mr. Hap Rocketto for compiling what has to be the best single list of distinguished shooters from all levels.
Respectfully,
LCDR Barbara Gies
Hello, I am excited to read your newsletter's that you generate. They are good sources of information and I am more and more motivated each time to continue working on my shooting skill's after being in the Marine corps for twenty years. I have been exposed to lot's of range shooting with rifles. I really like that feeling of being on the rifle range @ dawn preparing for a good day of accurate shooting. The fact that you continue to teach theses skill's with so much enthusiasm is absolutely outstanding.

Very informative. Reminders and tips for better shooting are always helpful. We tend to forget lessons learned and sometimes need to be hit on the head with a 2X4. LEStahl
Good stories, would love to see training info. on smallbore.

I thought the article about the Reading R&P Club was great. I have the pleasure of shooting matches at their club several times a year and you can't fine a better group of people and sportsmen.
Keep up the great work....

As always, a great job! Thanks for your efforts.
Best,

Kudo’s on a great way of getting interesting stories out to the public on my favorite rifle, the infamous M1 Garand. It never ceases to amaze me about how CMP continues to “think out of the box”. As a retired US Marine…and a self-acknowledged “Garand Expert”, I’m humbled by all that I yet do not know about the M1. Your publication is both humbling to this ol Jarhead and informative. I learn something new with each issue.

CMP Three-Position Air Rifle Camps Begin 10th Season

By Sommer Wood, Staff Writer/Editor

Back: Andrew Hahn, Joseph Hall, Ray Geyer, Brad Donoho, Cameron Hicks

Front: Vicki Goss, Jennifer Marshall, Natasha Dinsmore, Katie Harrington

The 2006 CMP Three-Position Air Rifle Camps mark a decade for a program that has influenced countless young shooters across the country and is revered as the premier camp of its kind. This year’s schedule and staff plan to carry forward the standards that campers and coaches have come to expect.

The camp is once again led by Dr. Dan Durben, who is serving as the Camp Director for a third season. Durben is a 1988 Olympian, was the National Rifle Coach from 1996 through 2000 when he coached the U. S. Olympic Shooting Team. He coached the National Paralympic Shooting Team in the 2004 Paralympics. The camp’s assistant director is CMP staff member Sommer Wood, who was a member of the Clemson University Club Rifle Team. Returning staff this year are Vicki Goss and Brad Donoho from the University of Kentucky, Natasha Dinsmore from West Virginia University, Katie Harrington from the University of Nebraska, and Joseph Hall from Jacksonville State University. New camp counselors this year are Andrew Hahn of Memphis State, Jennifer Marshall of North Carolina State, Ray Geyer of the University of Kentucky, and Cameron Hicks of Murray State.

The camps will begin this summer in Channelview, Texas on 5 June. Then the staff travels to Fort Benning, Georgia on 11-17 June to participate in the USA Shooting National Championships and also to conduct the second CMP Advanced Camp, which was an invitation-only camp for outstanding juniors who attended CMP summer camps in previous years. From Fort Benning, the camp travels to Spartanburg, South Carolina and the campus of Wofford College on 17-21 June. Oceanside, California will be the next stop for the CMP camps on 27 June-1 July; spaces are still available for this camp for anyone interested in attending. The staff then returns to Fort Benning to conclude the camp season with three weeks of regular camps plus a three-day session designed for coaches. The Coaches Camp will be held 6-8 July and still has space available; the regular camps run 11-29 July and all of these camps are full with waiting lists.

For more information about the camps or to keep track of scores from the end-of-camp matches, visit the CMP website at www.odcmp.com.
