After thirty three years in Law Enforcement most of that in firearms and tactical training. I have retired and have the opportunity to enjoy some of the publications, that in the past I was too busy to do. Your "First Shot" magazine that I receive each month is excellent. I can see what the youth programs are doing and follow the National Matches with ease. Thank you so much for this publication, keep up the good work.

SPC Brandon Green USA Wins National Trophy Individual Rifle Match

SPC Brandon Green won the National Trophy Individual Match with a score of 494-17X. The Match was decided on the 600 line in the last relay of the day.

The heat wave continues at Perry but SPC Brandon Green of the Army Marksmanship Unit stayed cool as he entered the 600
yard stage with the lead and a chance to win the 2006 National Trophy Individual Rifle Match. CW02 Billy Williamson of the U.S. Marine Corps shot a strong 197-8X at
600 to jump to the top of the leader board, meaning SPC Green had to shoot at least 195-9X to win. The race for the Daniel Boone Trophy went down to the last relay of the
match, as SPC Green was the last of those in contention to fire. Showing a remarkable display of toughness, SPC Green shot a 196-4X at
600 to give him a winning total of 494-17X. He edged out CW02 Williamson by one point to win his first NTI Rifle Match. “It went down to the last shot, I knew if I shot a 9 it was over,” said SPC Green. The 2006 President’s 100 winner, SFC Lance Dement USA, finished the day in seventh.

Water was vital for all the shooters as the heat wave continued at Camp Perry. The Match began with 1281 competitors, but that number dwindled to 1134 as the day progressed.

Julie Coggshall of Meriden, CT will receive the Golden Eagle Trophy for finishing as the high junior. The junior race was close all day with Coggshall winning on X count over 2004 President’s 100 champion, Christopher Atkins of Brunswick, GA. Coggshall shot a 486-12X to Atkins’ 486-10X to take the win.

Non-Distinguished shooters vied for the top ten percent of the rankings so they could earn coveted EIC points.
|
The day began with 1281 competitors registered to shoot, but by the end of the day only 1134 competitors remained. A slight breeze brought some relief from the mid-90’s temperatures and 105 degree heat index, and was welcomed on the range despite effects on scores. For non-Distinguished competitors the day brought added pressure as they tried to obtain coveted “leg” or EIC points towards their Distinguished Rifleman’s Badge. Only the top ten percent of non-Distinguished shooters in the Match earn EIC points. The official EIC cut-off score for the 2006 NTI Rifle Match was 469-8X.
