Regarding the latest update, outstanding work again by the whole CMP crew! New or improved programs, expanded scholarships, new or improved facilities, new rifle and accessory offerings and the super relationships CMP has developed with the ONG and NRA leadership are shining examples of what can be done when one's heart is in the program. You all should be justifiably proud of how the program has progressed into its second century. Somewhere President Teddy Roosevelt has a big grin and is saying a hearty Bully for the CMP! Regards, LTC John F., USAR ret'd
I have truly enjoyed your Shooting Tips site. Even as a 25 yr veteran police sniper/high power shooter,I still find interesting, and useful tips from the successful younger folks coming up through the military, and law enforcement. Keep up the good work!

Wow! Please forward my thanks to everyone responsible for all the improvements I just read about at Camp Perry. Recent years have included quite a few impressive improvements and it looks like there are more this year. The Air Gun range, bath house at RV Park, Bataan Armory remodel, etc are all great. Just letting you know how much we (competitors) appreciate all the work.
Sincerely...
Grayson P.
CMP Shooters' News is one of my favorite email news publications. Information packed, talented authors, timely subjects, and all around well done. What a great service you are providing to the shooting community. Just wanted to say thanks and Merry Christmas.

I enjoy and look forward to TFS and the excellent articles that are published on a regular basis.
Please keep this publication coming and keep the CMP active.

One of the members at Snipers Hide pointed out the newsletter and the High Power Tips articles by the USAMU team.
Darn you! I was up until 1:00 AM last night reading all of the articles. Great newsletter and really great USAMU articles.
Thanks,
Michael E.
Great article written on physical conditioning in the latest TFS. I was one of likely many who had asked about the type of conditioning recommended for serious shooters. Sgt. Craig did a great job on describing the routines. Now it’s my turn to put it to work.
Thanks to you, Sgt. Craig and other contributors who share best practices of shooting excellence.
Sincerely,
Keith H.
I use these articles in our high power clinics and have found them very helpful for both new shooters and reinforcement of the basics for the more experienced.
Thanks, Gary M.
Thanks for the great articles on the Carbine, Springfield, Garand matches. All the articles are interesting, but the Carbine, Springfield & Garand are my favorites.
Jim H.
The September-07 on line shooting tips by SSG Tobie Tomlinson, USAMU Service Rifle Team Member, is a great article. I have reproduced 15 copies of it to hand out and discuss to our “newbie” first year air rifle shooters on our high school JROTC Air Rifle Team. Come to think about it believe I’ll hand out a copy to my advance shooters as well. His explanations are simple to understand but rich in detail. Coupled with the sight pictures this article will go a long way towards helping all our JROTC shooters obtain better sight patterns. Keep up the great work. AND…..keep the articles like this coming.

2008 Western CMP Games and Creedmoor Cup Matches Ready for Entries
By Gary Anderson, DCM

The 2008 Western CMP Games and Creedmoor Cup Matches will take place at the Ben Avery Shooting Facility North of Phoenix, Arizona on 11-19 October. Shooters who want detailed information about the events on the program should examine the match program at
http://www.odcmp.com/Competitions/WesternGames.htm. Shooters can now register on-line at

The 2008 Western CMP Games and Creedmoor Cup Matches are the fifth in a series that started at Camp Pendleton, California in 2005. The fourth Western Games Matches were moved to the Ben Avery Shooting Facility near Phoenix, Arizona in October 2007. This year’s matches will be the second Western CMP Games and Creedmoor Cup Matches to be held at Phoenix. Together with the Eastern CMP Games and Creedmoor Cup Matches that now take place at Camp Butner, North Carolina, these competitions were established to give the nation’s best highpower rifle shooters two prestigious national-level competitions and to give recreation-oriented riflemen in other areas of the country more opportunities to experience the kind of competitions that competitors in the National CMP Games Matches at Camp Perry regard so highly.
There are some schedule changes this year that will give competitors in the Western CMP Games three more events that they can fire. The 5th Western CMP Games will kick off with a New Shooter Clinic on Saturday, 11 October. This year the clinic will be held in the morning so that a 200-yard Garand-Springfield-Vintage Military Rifle Match can be fired that afternoon.
On Sunday, 12 October, there will be a Garand-Springfield-Vintage Military Rifle Match in the morning. That afternoon, there will be a new event on the schedule, a Rimfire Sporter Match. This should give other shooters in the Southwest a chance to try the steadily growing Rimfire Sporter game. That afternoon, the CMP government-surplus rifle and ammunition sales will open, followed by a barbecue for all attendees.
|
Both the Western CMP Games and Creedmoor Cup Matches begin with clinics. The CMP clinic on Saturday morning, 11 October, focuses on the needs of new As-Issued Military Rifle shooters. The Creedmoor Cup Clinic on Wednesday, 15 October, is a comprehensive clinic with lots of advanced information for service and match rifle highpower shooters.
|
Shooting opportunities on the third day, Monday, 13 October, have also been expanded. There will be a third Garand-Springfield-Vintage Military Rifle Match that morning followed by an M1 Carbine Match that afternoon. With three days of Garand-Springfield-Vintage Military Rifle Matches, shooters will be able to fire all three events. This year, there will be awards for the top shooters in a special aggregate of all three As-Issued Military Rifle Matches. The new Carbine Match will give shooters in that part of the country an opportunity to fire that challenging and relatively new event.
The Western CMP Games Matches conclude on Tuesday, 14 October, with an As-Issued M1 Garand Special EIC Match where shooters who do not have any EIC points can earn introductory “4-point legs.” As a further incentive to participation in this match, Bushmaster will provide a Bushmaster DCM-XR competition service rifle to be awarded to the highest ranking shooter who is eligible to win the 4-point legs (no previous EIC points).
The 2008 Western Creedmoor Cup Matches begin with a highpower rifle clinic on Wednesday, 15 October, and then offer four days of matches for service rifles and match rifles on 16-19 October. Members of the U. S. Army and U. S. Marine Corps Service Rifle Teams and Team Bushmaster will be on hand to assist with the clinic and subsequently compete in the matches. The matches include a 50-shot National Match Course practice match on Thursday, a 4-person team match on Friday, the 80-shot Creedmoor Cup Match on Saturday and a 50-shot EIC/Match Rifle course on Sunday. Creedmoor Sports will host a barbecue and prize drawing with many thousands of dollars worth of prizes on Saturday, 18 October.

Registration for the 2008 Western CMP Games and Creedmoor Cup Match is now open.

The CMP and Creedmoor Sports of Oceanside, California, together with the Arizona State Rifle & Pistol Association, will host the 2008 Western CMP Games and Creedmoor Cup Matches. Mark your calendars and plan to be apart of this exciting event!
The Ben Avery Shooting Facility (formerly Black Canyon Range) is one of the largest and most complete range facilities in the U. S. It was selected as the venue for the CMP Games and Creedmoor Cup Matches because of its size, location near a major western city and interest in hosting this fast-growing major rifle competition. The Ben Avery Range hosted the 1970 World Shooting Championship and several national championships. It continues to host numerous regional and local competitions in a variety of shooting disciplines every year. The Arizona Game and Fish Department now operates the facility; it is the largest public shooting facility in the country.
On-line registration for both the CMP and Creedmoor Matches is now open. Click on
