Targets Now Available as JROTC Postal Season Opens
By Steve Cooper, CMP Writer
CAMP PERRY, OHIO – If you have aspirations of becoming the next individual or team JROTC Service Champion and possibly a National Champion, your preparation period begins now as fellow Army, Marine Corps, Navy and Air Force JROTC Cadets across the country begin preparations to compete in the 2010-2011 Air Rifle Postal Competitions.
The CMP's Competition Tracker will allow JROTC instructors to register their teams and order targets. Once competition begins, shooters’ friends and families can track results.
Once again CMP will be using Competition Tracker for JROTC instructors to register teams and order targets for Postal competition. Once registered, each cadet will receive three targets and instructions for firing the three position match on their home ranges. These targets will be specially marked by the CMP with the cadet’s information that will assist in the speedy scoring of these targets once they are returned.
Like last year, CMP staff members will be using the Orion Visual Image Scoring system to verify and score targets. The targets will be scanned and digitally scored using the computer program. Scores from the Postals will be displayed on the CMP’s Competition Tracker results page so teams can see the results progress throughout the Postal season.
CMP staff members will verify all targets after they are scored electronically by the Orion visual imaging scoring system.
Links to register for the Postals, as well as links to the Match Programs can be found at
http://www.odcmp.com/3P/JROTC.htm.
There are a few important dates for the Postals. From now until 12 November entries will be accepted. Once target sets are sent out to units, targets can be fired at any time, but must be postmarked by 24 November and received by 3 December to be included in this year’s results. Although scores will be posted online as they are scored, results become final on 10 December.
The winner of the 2009-2010 National JROTC precision team championship was Siegel High School Army JROTC of Tennessee who fired a team aggregate score of 4633 – 280.
These Postal matches provide JROTC units from across the country the opportunity to participate in a national level competition as well as to qualify the teams and individuals for their respective Service Championships. This year’s Service Championships will be held at both CMP North and South Competition Centers at Camp Perry, Port Clinton, Ohio and Anniston, Alabama.
Thomas Wheeless, left, Marine Corps JROTC, captured the individual sporter air rifle championship with an aggregate score of 1199.1-39 and Richard Calvin, a member of the Siegel HS Army JROTC national championship team also won the individual title with an aggregate score of 1282-87.
Both ranges are equipped with 80 electronic targets that display instant results of the competition. The results will also be posted live for online viewing. The Navy JROTC Service Championship will be held 10-12 February in Anniston. The Army and Air Force JROTC Service Championships will be fired concurrently 17-19 February at Camp Perry and Anniston. The Marine Corps JROTC Service Championship information is yet to be determined.
The winner of the 2009-2010 National
JROTC sporter team championship was Ozark High School
Army JROTC of Missouri who compiled a winning aggregate
score of 4376-151. |
The Service Championships will determine the top teams and individuals that will represent their service at the National JROTC Air Rifle Championship. Like last year, the CMP will host this event 24-26 March at the CMP Competition Center South. The range features electronic targets and live viewing of results, as well as spacious areas for competitors and spectators.
Scores will continue to be updated as received and scored. Find results at
