> Rimfire rifle enthusiasts, it’s time to get your entry in for the first CMP Rimfire Sporter Rifle Match that will take place at the Tom Lowe Shooting Grounds Olympic Complex Range near Atlanta on April 27. This new match will be a fun-oriented, recreational event that could become the ‘Garand Match of rimfire shooting.’ Rifles used may be either semi-auto or manually operated, must weigh no more than 7.5 pounds with sights and can have scopes or open sights (two classes). Shooting |
jackets and other specialized target equipment are not permitted. The course of fire includes prone, sitting or kneeling and standing position |
firing. Targets have scoring rings that are large enough for beginners to get hits while still challenging more advanced shooters. Firing includes slow-fire and rapid-fire stages. The official program and entry forms are posted on the CMP web site at
http://www.odcmp.com/Services/Competitions/CMPGamesOfficialProgram.PDF. For gun and rimfire enthusiasts, especially those who live in the Atlanta or Camp Perry, Ohio areas, this match offers a great opportunity to have an especially enjoyable day on the range. Rules for the new match are printed in the 2002 CMP Competition Rules that are posted on the CMP web site at

While CMP staff works its way through this most welcome deluge of Springfield order inquiries, we urge anyone who is having difficulty contacting CMP staff members via telephone to please, if at all possible, use email. |

> The 2002 National Matches will include an exciting new competition event. The CMP, in cooperation with the NRA, will offer a |
Springfield/Military Bolt Rifle Match on Friday, 2 August, the day before the Garand Match. The Springfield Match will be similar to the fast-growing Garand Match. Shooters must use either “as-issued” M1903 or M1903-A3 rifles or manually-operated military rifles that were issued by foreign armed services. The course of fire will be the same as the Garand Match, 5 sighting shots and 10 shots for record slow fire from the prone position, 10 shots rapid fire prone (80 second time limit) and 10 shots slow fire from the standing position. To obtain a copy of the match program for the 2002 Garand Match and the Springfield/Military Bolt Rifle Match, click on
http://www.odcmp.com/Services/Competitions/CMPGamesOfficialProgram.PDF. You can then print out your own copy of the program and request official entry forms that will be sent out by the NRA in May. > The deadline for CMP affiliated clubs and state associations to submit their Annual Statistical Reports and yearly dues of $30.00 was March 31. Clubs that have not submitted their Reports and 2002 dues by that date are delinquent. Members of those clubs will not be able to order CMP surplus rifles and the clubs cannot participate in other CMP programs until their renewals are submitted. The CMP urges any delinquent affiliates to complete their reports and send them in as soon as possible as their affiliation with the CMP is valued and appreciated. > The Ohio Rifle and Pistol Association still has openings in its annual CMP Spring Service Rifle Clinic at Camp Perry on April 27-28. Contact Mrs. Barb Smith, ORPA Highpower Director, P. O. Box 11490, Columbus OH 43211-0490. These clinics are a great way to learn the basics of service rifle competition and to qualify to purchase CMP government surplus rifles and ammo. Loaner M1s will be available at Camp Perry for any attendees who do not have their own rifle. > The Nebraska Shooting Sports Association is offering a J. C. Garand Postal Match. The match is open to five person teams that represent any interested shooting club. If your club members are interested in putting together a team and shooting a Garand Match at your home range, check out the postal match program at the NSSA web site, http://monarch.papillion.ne.us/~nssa/nssapostal.htm. In postal matches, you shoot at your home range and email scores to the match sponsor who posts the scores in a match bulletin. Team entry is only $5.00. Firing must be completed in April, so if your club is interested, check out the program right away and get your entry in. The CMP will accept participation in this postal match as meeting its “marksmanship participation requirements” for purchasing a government surplus rifle. > A program and entry form for the 2002 Small Arms Firing Schools are now posted on the CMP website at http://www.odcmp.com/Services/Competitions/SAFS.PDF. Both the service pistol and service rifle Small Arms Firings Schools take place at Camp Perry, Ohio in conjunction with the National Matches. U. S. Army Pistol and Rifle Team members give SAFS instruction. Military pistol and rifle team members provide coaching during live firing exercises. The pistol school takes place on 8-9 July while the rifle school is on 28-29 July. Service pistol or rifles and ammunition are provided as part of the $30.00 entry package. These annual schools at Camp Perry are among the greatest opportunities in marksmanship instruction. Every shooter and gun enthusiast should go through the schools. |
