Bushmaster Firearms of Windham, Maine, recently made a $10,000.00 contribution to the CMP National Matches Junior Highpower Support Fund. A formal check presentation ceremony took place at Camp Butner, North Carolina on 7 May during the Eastern CMP Games and Creedmoor Cup Matches that took place at Camp Butner on 3 to 11 May. The check represents the proceeds from a special series of Bushmaster DCM-XR competition rifles that were produced to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the National Matches coming to Camp Perry, Ohio.
Jerrod McDevitt, the Manager of Business Development at Bushmaster, presented the check. When Bushmaster produced and began marketing the special DCM-XR rifle during the 2007 National Matches at Camp Perry, they committed to donating $100.00 from each rifle sale to the CMP National Matches Junior Highpower Support Fund that is used to provide financial assistance to partially offset the costs of travel, accommodations and entry fees for juniors competing in the CMP service rifle matches at Camp Perry. In 2007, this fund provided nearly $25,000.00 in support for junior highpower shooters to help make it possible for them to attend the National Matches.
CMP Director Gary Anderson said, “the CMP deeply appreciates Bushmaster’s offering this exciting rifle promotion to celebrate the Camp Perry Centennial. It made a high quality competition service rifle available to a lot of shooters at a very attractive price and it significantly benefited our country’s junior service rifle program. More junior shooters will be able to participate in National Matches service rifle competitions because of Bushmaster’s great support.”
One hundred of these special AR-platform competition rifles were produced. They were serial numbered “1 of 100” through “100 of 100.” The laser-engraving on the magazine well of these rifles featured a logo commemorating the Camp Perry Centennial and the CMP. Number one of this series of rifles was used by Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army John McLaurin to fire the ceremonial first shot in the 2007 National Matches First Shot Ceremony.
