Rick Sten wins top prize in the 30 Shot Pistol Center Shot Re-Entry Match and John Zurek is the 2012 National Matches Air Pistol Champion

The CMP’s National Match Air Gun Events take place every year during the National Matches at Camp Perry. The air gun events started in 2009 and offer national match competitors and area visitors an opportunity to shoot on the CMP’s high-tech indoor range which features 80 MegaLink electronic targets.
The CMP Marksmanship Center is located just to the east of Petrarca Range and next to the Camp Perry water tower.

Starting with the Pistol Phase, the CMP offers eight different air pistol, air rifle and National Match Air Rifle events. There are both re-entry (shoot as many times as you wish with the best score counting) and championship (one match per competitor) events. Loaner equipment and pellets are available at the range or competitors may bring their own air guns (must shoot 600 or less fps).
All shots fired at the CMP Marksmanship Center are instantly displayed on monitors beside each shooter and on display screens visible to spectators in the center area of the range. 182 competitors visited the CMP Marksmanship Center during the pistol phase.

Each phase (Pistol, Smallbore and Highpower) offers an unlimited re-entry match. The top center shots are recorded and match officials will calculate the distance to the center of the target. $2.00 of each entry fee will go into the Top Center Shot prize pool and the top ten competitors will receive a payout. For the Pistol phase, $1,188 was awarded. Rick Sten, of Pembroke, MA, fired the closest center shot (0.209mm from the center of the target) and was awarded $297.00.
The ten Top Center Shots received a percentage of the prize pool. Over $1,188 was awarded.

Sixty-one shooters shot in the 60-shot Air Pistol Championship this year. Shooters had 1 hour, 45 minutes to shoot unlimited sighters and 60 record shots on the ISSF air pistol target. John Zurek, 48, of Phoenix, AZ, was named the National Matches Air Pistol Champion, firing a 567-16X. Zurek also fired in the CMP National Trophy Pistol Matches and won both the Citizens’ Military Pistol Trophy (high civilian in the National Trophy Individual (NTI) Pistol Match) and the Anheuser Busch Trophy (high civilian in the NTI and National Trophy Team (NTT) Pistol Match). Placing second only three points behind was Alexander Chichkov, 18, of Tampa, FL (564-14X). Chichkov also won the G.P Perry DeFino Trophy in the Junior NTI match. Anatoly Andrianov, 41, of Schaumburg, IL, placed third (560-12).
Gold, silver and bronze achievement pins are awarded to individuals who achieve cut scores posted in the National Match Air Gun program.
