While temperatures continue to rise this week at the National Matches, SFC Norman Anderson of the Army Marksmanship Unit remains hottest shooter on the range. SFC Anderson followed up Tuesdays President’s 100 Match win with a 496-22x score on Wednesday to win the National Trophy Individual Match for the second year in a row. He is only the fourth person to ever win both the President’s 100 and the NTI in the same year. The last person to accomplish this was SSGT Kevin R. Kistler, USMC, in 1993.
SFC Anderson dropped points early in the match that kept him out of the lead until the last stage at 600 yards. While most of the competitors struggled in the last stage, SFC Anderson shot one of the few perfect scores at 600 years. His 200-11x allowed him to gain the lead and the win. “All I tried to do today is shoot good shots. I wasn’t expecting to follow up yesterday’s performance. When you just boil it all down to sight alignment and trigger control good things happen,” SFC Anderson said. With the two wins, SFC Anderson is also in the lead for the prestigious Mountain Man Trophy, but he is closely followed by SSG Tobie Tomlinson, John Sylvester, MSG Douglas Morrison, and Konrad Powers.

The top junior of the day was James Fox from White City, OR with a 493-21x. Fox was the second highest junior in the President’s 100 Thursday and finished fifth overall in the NTI.
1,222 shooters competed in the National Trophy Individual Match. The cut-off for “leg” or EIC points is currently 473-6x.
