ANNISTON, AL – Walla Walla High School from Walla Walla, WA, took home the overall team trophy for the precision class in the 2013 National Junior Olympic Competition, held July 13 at the CMP Marksmanship Center. Team members Sarah Jameson, Caitlyn Lasseigne, Allison Juergensen and Andrew Jenkins fired a combined score of 2330-136x for their first place position. The team is coached by Mark Mebes.
Rachael Schoenrock set three new national records and took home the gold during the Junior Olympic competition.

“Three years ago, we barely made it to the Army match, taking last place. That corps has come up, with this being the pinnacle of what they’ve done. It’s cool to watch. They came up as a team, so they help each other out.”

Unfortunately, the team will be losing one member for the upcoming school year. Caitlyn Lasseigne was one of the many shooters already graduated from high school who still traveled to shoot with their teams in the match. After winning the top prize in the Junior Olympic Match, Lasseigne was overcome with happiness and sadness as she realized she was shooting her last match with her high school team.
Walla Walla High School took home the first place overall team award in the JO competition with their score of 2330-136x. Gallatin Valley Sharp Shooters claimed the second place spot, followed by Frazier Simplex Center Shots in third.

“I just had a little breakdown,” she said as she laughed. “I’m sad to leave.”

Teammate Sarah Jameson was also overcome with emotion as she came in fifth place and set the new Army JROTC National Standing Record with her individual score of 196-13x.
Sarah Jameson, a member of the winning Walla Walla High School team, also set a new National Standing Record with her score of 196-13x.
