News CMP Releases New Program Guide - The CMP has just released a comprehensive programs guide similar to the catalog that the CMP offers for its surplus rifle sales program. The new 2003 CMP Program Guide consolidates a whole series of individual pieces of program literature to provides a "one-stop" resource for CMP clubs, special affiliates and individual shooters and coaches. The guide has summary information on every CMP training and competition program including the affiliate equipment and ammunition programs, the delayed payment rifle purchase program, club affiliations, competition programs and many more. The guide also provides CMP contact information, web site locations for more information and all necessary order forms. To request your copy of the guide, contact CMP Headquarters at (419) 635-2141 ext. 1100 or email programs@odcmp.com. Commemorative Centennial Pins and Prints Available for Purchase - To commemorate the first 100 years of the National Matches and the CMP, both of which were founded in 1903, the CMP produced a special Centennial logo that was reproduced on a lapel pin. The pins were distributed to participants in the National Matches and many CMP sanctioned events during 2003. The pins also are available for purchase through the CMP E-Store at http://estore.odcmp.com/Store/catalog/ catalog.aspx. The three-color pin depicts a scene from the National Trophy that was commissioned in 1903 for the first National Matches. The scene portrays the Roman god of war, Mars, holding the leashes to his dogs of war. Many shooters, in fact, know the National Trophy simply as the "Dogs of War" trophy. Pins can be purchased through the CMP E-Store for the price of $2.50 each, plus tax. CMP Centennial Posters. As part of its Centennial commemoration, the CMP commissioned an original work or art that was reproduced in a commemorative poster. The vividly colored painting from noted artist Jerry Antolik depicts shooters from the early years of Camp Perry's rich history, as well as other scenes Camp Perry visitors will recognize. The prints are full-color, 19"x24"in size and are suitable for framing. At the price of $14.95 plus tax, this print is a must have item for any Camp Perry enthusiast. For more information, open http://www.odcmp.com/NM/Centennial Painting.htm. Then go to the CMP E-Store to order. Military Surplus M-1 Carbine Ammunition Discontinued to Individual Sales - Supplies of military surplus M-1 Carbine ammunition have depleted to the point that the CMP will no longer stock this item for sale to individual members. All orders that are currently in process will be filled, but any remaining ammunition will be reserved for CMP affiliated clubs, clinics and matches. No additional quantities of this ammunition are available from the U.S. Army. Ammunition Allocation Program to Be Phased Out - In a major program change, the CMP Board of Directors decided last month to phase out the Ammunition Allocation Program for CMP affiliated clubs. In the past, the CMP provided limited quantities of specially subsidized ammunition to affiliated clubs and teams that reported junior marksmanship activity in their Annual Reports. Affiliated clubs that reported junior activity typically received one to four shipping units of smallbore ammunition or air rifle pellets at a heavily subsidized price that was as much as 40% below regular price affiliates paid to purchase additional quantities of this ammo. Developing a system to effectively evaluate junior activity proved to be an administrative nightmare both for the CMP staff and for affiliated clubs. After evaluating this program, the CMP Program Committee and Board decided that it would be better to reduce the administrative burden and to concentrate on continuing to make training grade smallbore ammunition and air rifle pellets available to affiliates at the best price possible. Beginning on January 1, 2004, the Allocated Ammunition Program for Affiliates will no longer be available. CMP affiliates will still be eligible to purchase training grade smallbore and air rifle ammo at special affiliate prices that the CMP will continue to keep as low as possible to support affiliates in their junior training programs. CMP to Replace H&N Pellets with Vogel Merlin Match Pellets - Currently, the CMP makes supplies of match and training grade .177 caliber air rifle pellets available for purchase by affiliated clubs. The training grade pellets sold by the CMP are manufactured by Daisy. Until now, match grade pellets sold by the CMP were manufactured by H&N, a German company. The CMP periodically reevaluates its affiliate rifle and ammunition purchase programs to assure that prices and quality continue to give affiliates' junior marksmanship programs the best possible support. This led to a recent decision to stock the Vogel Match pellet as the basic match-grade pellet available from CMP. Accuracy testing by CMP and many shooters confirms that the Merlin Match pellets are as good or better than pellets previously available through CMP. Vogel Pellets is a family-owned and operated business located near Aachen, Germany. Gunter Vogel designed and created pellet-manufacturing machines for several big name manufacturers before deciding to start making his own pellets about 10 years ago. After existing supplies of H&N pellets are exhausted, orders for match grade pellets will be filled with the Vogel pellets. Banning Pellet Guns in Canada? - A recent poll conducted by CTV/Globe and Mail/Ipsos-Reid shows that 55 percent of Canadians believe that 'pellet guns are dangerous and should be banned outright.' In contrast, 44 per cent said they disagreed with the idea of a pellet gun ban. Consideration of a ban arose after a string of incidents of criminal misuse including drive-by pellet gun attacks according to a story on Canada's CTV.ca Web site. New Achievement Pins Available for Club Garand, Springfield, Military Rifle and Rimfire Sporter Matches. - This year CMP affiliated clubs will conduct over 300 CMP-Sanctioned Club Garand, Springfield, Military Rifle and Rimfire Sporter Matches. These are local competition sponsored by a host club that is affiliated with the CMP. Club Garand matches are by far the most popular, but they have been available for several years, while Club Springfield, Military Rifle and Rimfire Sporter Matches have just started in the past year. To set up a CMP-Sanctioned Club Match, an affiliated club needs to set a date, prepare a match program, appoint the necessary staff and apply to the CMP for sanctioning. The application form for a sanctioned match is at http://www.odcmp.com/Competitions/ APPMatch.pdf. |
|
Sanctioning a match
with CMP costs just $20.00 per match. Sanctioned matches are listed on the
CMP web page to help promote the matches and clubs can request certificates
for competitors that they can use to verify marksmanship participation when
ordering a CMP government-surplus rifle. An added benefit has just been
added to this program. The CMP developed a series of gold, silver and bronze
Club Match Achievement Pins that match sponsors can order for $1.00 each.
These pins may then be awarded or sold to shooters in their matches when
they fire CMP Games Achievement Medal scores. CMP Job Openings. The CMP is currently seeking applications from qualified candidates for two positions.
