2011 Coaches College and Conference
Submitted by Michael Theimer, USA Shooting Youth Programs and Athlete Development Manager
USA Shooting will host the 2011 Coach College (November 12-17) and Coaches Conference (November 18-20) for continuing education of our coaches and program leaders at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.
Coaching athletes is one of the most challenging endeavors, and it can be one of the most rewarding. To help you meet the challenges of coaching competitive athletes, the National Rifle Association, USA Shooting and the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) encourage you to participate in the Coach Education Program. The Coach Education Program (CEP) is a cooperative effort of these national shooting organizations and is administered by the NRA.
The 2011 Coaches College and Conference will provide all those who complete the Level 1 Coach Certification Course to obtain all requirements for their Level 2 certification in the same week!! We will follow the Level 1 Coach Certification Course with the ASEP course on the 17th of November and a First Aid Course on the 18th. These are the only two requirements for your Level 2 certification.
For those of you who have your Level 2 certification, this is an opportunity to obtain your Level 3 certification just prior to the Coach Conference. Level 3 certification provides you with additional knowledge and skill to coach Olympic level athletes and visibility with the National Coaches. Level 3 Coaches are an elite group. It’s from this elite group that our Assistant National Coaches are selected from and have the opportunity to travel with the US Team to international competitions.
For those of you who would like to become Coach Certification Instructors (National Coach Development Staff – NCDS), Marcus Raab wants to hear from you (703-267-1589 or mraab@nrahq.org). We need more Coach Certification Instructors that are available to respond to requests for the Level 1 and Level 3 coach certification courses around the country. The NCDS school is by invitation only and you must contact Marcus Raab to be approved to attend the NCDS school.
If you have thought about being a certified coach (rifle/pistol/shotgun) or expand your skills and get your Level 3 coach certification, this is your chance. The coach conference is THE place to learn from others, network with other coaches and build a better competitive program at your club. Your program could produce future Olympic champions.
Dorm rooms at the U.S. Olympic Training Center are available for $45 per night with meals on a first come first serve basis. There are a limited number of rooms and they will fill fast. Don’t wait, register now.
Registration closes October 28, 2011. Visit
