Cadets and Teams Advancing to the JROTC Service Air Rifle Championships Announced
- CAMP PERRY, OHIO - Army, Marine Corps, Navy and Air Force JROTC rifle teams kicked off their 2009-2010 competition year as they competed in the 2009-2010 JROTC Air Rifle Postal Competitions.
For the past seven year, the Civilian Marksmanship Program has overseen the scoring of JROTC 3x10 three-position air rifle postal competitions. These annual postal matches determine which JROTC unit teams and individual cadets advance to compete in their respective service’s JROTC shoulder-to-shoulder Championship.

Two New National Trophies

Thanks to generous donations from two long-time competitive shooters who are both Distinguished Badge holders and who have been regular National Matches participants, two new trophies were recently added to the CMP’s National Trophy Collection. Both trophies are to be awarded in the National Trophy Pistol Matches and will replace older trophies that the CMP Trophy Committee determined were not of National Trophy quality.

Anniston’s Dixie Double a Success

The Inaugural Dixie Double Precision Air Rifle and Air Pistol Event surpassed the Civilian Marksmanship Program’s highest expectations thanks to the turnout of several of the nation’s most talented competitors, outstanding marksmanship and a Sunday rifle final that kept competitors and spectators riveted until the final shot.

Registration Open for Junior Air Rifle Individuals and Teams in the
U. S. Army Junior Open Air Rifle State Championship Postal Competition
- The U. S. Army Junior Open Air Rifle Championship is now taking entries for the 2009-2010 State Championship postal competition. This Championship is sponsored by the Army Marksmanship Unit and is open to all junior shooting organizations that have school-age juniors as members or enrollees (high school seniors or below). Participation by as many junior teams, clubs, 4-H clubs, JROTC units or other organizations around the country is encouraged.

2009 Western Creedmoor Cup Matches

The 2009 Western Creedmoor Cup Matches, the third held at the Ben Avery Shooting Facility near Phoenix since moving from Camp Pendleton, California, are now in the books. CMP and Creedmoor Sports of Oceanside, California, together with the Arizona State Rifle & Pistol Association served as hosts of the matches and games events.

6th Western CMP Games
- The objective of the CMP Games Matches is to encourage participation, to get more people out on ranges for “rifle practice” and competitions. The four days of shooting during the 2009 Western CMP Games at the Ben Avery Shooting Facility north of Phoenix surely fulfilled that objective. The Games saw competitors complete a record 476 event entries in six different CMP Games rifle events.

More Camp Perry Improvements

Two Ohio National Guard ceremonies on 13 October, one a Dedication Ceremony and one a Groundbreaking Ceremony, highlighted the most recent endeavors to make additional improvements to Camp Perry, which is the home of the National Matches and CMP North Headquarters. A photovoltaic solar field that is now producing power for the Camp Perry Training Center was dedicated and ground was broken for a new barracks that will provide housing for both National Guard Soldiers and National Matches competitors.

- The task of acquiring a spot in the 2010 JROTC Service Championships starts this week for JROTC cadets across the nation, as Army, Marine Corps, Navy and Air Force JROTC Cadets will begin preparations to compete in the 2009-2010 Air Rifle Postal Competitions.
